Pistachio Recall by California Company Prompts FDA Warning

Fresno (myFOXla.com) – Federal food safety officials warned Monday that consumers should stop eating all foods containing pistachios while they figure out the source of a possible salmonella contamination. Still reeling from the national salmonella outbreak in peanuts, the Food and Drug Administration said central California-based Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella Inc., the nation’s second-largest pistachio processor, was voluntarily recalling a portion of the roasted nuts it has been shipping since last fall.

A Setton spokeswoman said that amounts to more than 2 million pounds of nuts. “Our advice to consumers is that they avoid eating pistachio products, and that they hold onto those products,” said Dr. David Acheson, assistant commissioner for food safety. “The number of products that are going to be recalled over the coming days will grow, simply because these pistachio nuts have then been repackaged into consumer-level containers.

Izzo. Michigan St carries banner for Big Ten

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Michigan State coach Tom Izzo wouldn’t mind earning some respect for the Big Ten on Sunday. Beating top-ranked Louisville to reach the Final Four would suffice. The Spartans already earned some credibility for the league by beating defending national champion Kansas 67-62 on Friday night in the Midwest Regional semifinals. Now, Michigan State has advanced to face the Big East champion Cardinals on Sunday in the regional final. Izzo respects the Big East, but he has said all season that the Big Ten has been slighted.

He repeated those sentiments after the win over Kansas. “I think we were very well prepared this year for this tournament and the toughness you have to display in this tournament because of the teams we played in our league,” he said. “I think our league deserves some credit. There’s no question the Big East is a great league, but our league’s been pretty good, too.

American Idol Michael Sarver. Isn’t this show, after all, all about the singing? And if it’s okay in the group numbers, will it one day be okay in the individual performances?

The admission by an “Idol” spokesman, which first appeared in a story on Wednesday, was sure to leave some die-hard fans scratching their heads. Isn’t this show, after all, all about the singing? And if it’s okay in the group numbers, will it one day be okay in the individual performances? Or, are our poor Idols so overworked with rehearsals, trips to Motown, Ford commercial shoots and meetings with celebrity mentors that they can be let off the hook for a bit of singing over pre-recorded tracks? After all, the group numbers are widely regarded as little more than filler during the hour-long elimination shows and are arguably among the series’ least enthralling segments. The contestants appeared to sing along to a recorded track again during their group “Motown medley” on Thursday, with some words seeming to not quite match up. But lip-synching or live singing, one thing is certain: Sarver won’t be doing either on “Idol” anymore. Judge Simon Cowell effectively sealed his fate when he told Sarver on Wednesday that he had no chance of winning the competition.

So, a rather unsurprising elimination, yes. But who could face the chopping block next? And will the lip-synching controversy force a move to live performances for the group numbers?

Lost. The Lowdown: Everybody’s going to be talking about the ending of this episode until the airing of the next episode.

Details of Sayid’s relationship with Ben in between his two stints on the island, as well as other periods in Sayid’s life are explored in flashback. In the present – which is actually the past – Sayid is still the prisoner of the Dharma Initiative. Although Sawyer is looking for a way to free him without compromising his own position and that of the other Losties, Sayid doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to be let go.

However, Sayid is eventually freed by someone in the camp when the Dharma people decide to kill him. He then does something so unbelievable that it could change everything in the future. The Lowdown: Everybody’s going to be talking about the ending of this episode until the airing of the next episode. It turned a fairly pedestrian installment into what’s sure to be one of the bigger-debated topics of the season.

Condoleezza Rice a big hit at NFL meetings

“I’ve invited somebody who wants my job in front of the same people who hired me,” Goodell joked. To which Rice responded, “It’s true, when I was talking with the Russians and … the Iranians and Venezuelans, your job seemed like a pretty good one to me.” Rice comes by her football chops naturally.

She described how her father was ready for a John Jr., who would become an All-American linebacker when, instead, she was born. She mentioned tossing the coin for the opening of the Tennessee-Alabama game in Tuscaloosa and, after the Crimson Tide won it, quarterback Brodie Croyle saying to her: “Nice flip.” And Rice praised the NFL for its efforts in internationalizing the game.

Amanda Terkel. Virtually everything good in our nation (abolition of slavery movement, women’s suffrage, civil rights movement,

We have to begin to change how we think about our country. We have to learn to understand what oligarchy means. I’ll save you the trouble of having to look up the definition – A government in which power is in the hands of a few. When you have lost your democracy then what do the citizens do? They must fight (non-violently) to take it back.

This of course means direct action and sometimes civil disobedience. Virtually everything good in our nation (abolition of slavery movement, women’s suffrage, civil rights movement, anti-war movements, etc) have come from people stepping up when they were needed. Calling for impeachment by the Congress becomes imperative today. Are you in or out? Step #5 Forget the “every man for himself” mythology. We are all brainwashed in this country to believe in the rugged individualism story.

Eastbound Episode. MEDIA: NCAA Tournament provides another way to phone it in

Eternity also can get a multi-game video stream. But as anyone with an iPhone can attest, there’s a world of difference, gadget-wise. Even if the universe of potential users for this access may be miniscule, it’s another test case for the power of the NCAA Tournament’s reach for the insta-user. “Because the tournament is over a couple of weeks, and it happens all day long, not in just one time window or a one-time event, the value of trying this is higher now with all the multiple opportunities,” Jeff Sellinger, the executive vice president and general manager of CBS mobile, said as he sat in his Television City offices near Farmer’s Market in Los Angeles, testing the iPhone in one hand and the AT&T FLO phone in the other.

“It’s pretty satisfying to see this work. People who buy this are the fanatics who’ll find the hot-spots to use the Wifi. The application is already the fourth-most popular paid on the service and it hasn’t been out very long. But it’s March madness. It doesn’t get much better than this.

Pat Holien, chairman of the board of directors, said Kutch was chosen from an original pool of more than 100 candidates when the executive search began this past summer. Bruce Vilanch. Playbill News: Project Shaw Gala, with Cerveris, Murray, Powell, Seldes and More, Presented March 16

The Gingold Theatrical Group, which presents the monthly Project Shaw series, hosts a starry benefit March 16 at The Players Club. The evening features a reading of George Bernard Shaw’s O’Flaherty V.C. as well as “a down home Irish dinner”: corned beef and cabbage, lamb stew, veggie pie, pudding and stout and ale. The GTG benefit boasts the talents of Michael Cerveris, Brian Murray, Jane Powell, Marian Seldes, Diane Stilwell Weinberg, George S. Irving and KT Sullivan with Dennis Buck. In O’Flaherty V.C. , press notes state, “an Irish soldier (Cerveris) has come home to Ireland having been given the royal Victoria Cross for heroism in WWI. His local squire (Murray) is astonished.

The only problem is how to keep his mother (Powell) from finding out he was fighting to defend England! It’s a rare, wicked and riotous political comedy from Dublin’s proudest son, G.B.S.” The evening begins with a 6 PM reception, followed by dinner at 7 PM and the reading at 8 PM. The Project Shaw series is produced and directed by David Staller, who acted with Dana Ivey in Shaw’s Mrs. Warren’s Profession at the Irish Repertory Theatre.
